Ulalume in Lonesome October

Laura Milnor Iverson

In tones of sepia and rust, the ghost of Ulalume sits in sad contemplation before a mausoleum. A grove of cypress trees add to the melancholy air. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's haunting poem, "Ulalume". This haunted graveyard is part of the Dreamscapes series, which combines my original paintings with digital enhancements. The ghost is from one of my paintings and the cemetery is a photograph of the historic Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in California. The grunge texture and imperfections give the piece a weathered, Victorian gothic feel. The copyright watermarks on the image do not appear on the actual print.
